  2. While I was in Kuching recently, I received a call from fellow Third Collegian (UM) Mohd Akhir Salleh from Penang conveying his deepest condolences to Yip's family.

We Third Collegians or Kurshians who were privileged to share part of our college life with Yip will always remember that he had good friends from all ethnic groups who really liked him very much. He was a little older than some of us, but could be crazy like us too! He was both a serious and fun chap.

We'll miss him at our 40th anniversary reunion next year.

  3. This I know of Yip from the day I knew him in 1969 just one or two days before May 13. One word summarises his life- peacemaker. Another word summarises his career - networker extraordinaire. His life was defined by full time volunteerism, a rare breed and a notion way ahead of its time.

He lived life to the full and gave all that he's got so others too may live that way.

If I remember rightly. One the evening of the Freshie Orientation night/dance at 3RC, news broke that KL was up in flames. A big group of us including Yip went to the UH to donate blood.

He was active all round on campus from day one, campus Christian fellowship, JCRC, of which he was chairman for one term, UMSU I think he stood for student union's election but I am not sure whether he got in, anti-Vietnam War, inter-college debate, songs etc..

Despite all this, he was a diligent and good student.

I can't recall any moment that Yip was angry, at least outwardly. Some Christians disagreed with him on the manner some of the Y programmes were run, but he ran them nonetheless without getting into arguments with them. He knew what he was doing and what he had to do. He did just this all his working life.

What a man, what a friend, what a life.

We will meet again no doubt in better circumstances in the knowledge of our Saviour's love.
